What Is a Digit Counter?
A digit counter is a tool that counts the individual numerical digits in a piece of text. Type or paste text into the box above and the total number of digits updates automatically.
This Digit Counter counts the digits 0 through 9. It also shows how many different digits are used, how many numbers appear, and how frequently each individual digit occurs.
You can also see the total character count, the number of non-digit characters, the percentage of your text made up of digits, and the most and least frequently used digits.
How to Count Digits
To count digits in your text:
- Type or paste your text into the box above.
- View the total number of digits at the top of the tool.
- Check Unique Digits to see how many different digits from 0 through 9 appear.
- Use the Digit Frequency table to see how often each individual digit appears.
All statistics update automatically as you type or edit your text, so there is no calculate button to press.
What Counts as a Digit?
This tool counts the standard decimal digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Each occurrence is counted separately.
For example, the number 2026 contains four digits: 2, 0, 2, and 6. Because the digit 2 appears twice, both occurrences are included in the total.
Letters, spaces, punctuation marks, symbols, and line breaks are not digits. They are included in the Non-Digit Characters metric instead.

What Is the Difference Between Digits and Numbers?
A digit is one numerical character from 0 through 9. A number can contain one or more digits.
For example, 572 is one number but contains three digits. The text “Room 572 costs $85” contains five digits but two numbers: 572 and 85.
The Numbers metric is useful when you want to distinguish between the total number of individual digits and the number of separate numerical values in your text.
How Are Numbers Counted?
The number count groups digits that belong to the same numerical value together. Common formats such as whole numbers, decimal numbers, and numbers containing thousands separators can be treated as a single number.
For example, 123, 45.6, and 1,250 each contain multiple digits but represent one number.
The individual digits inside those numbers are still counted separately in the Digits metric and the Digit Frequency table.
What Are Unique Digits?
Unique Digits shows how many different digits from 0 through 9 appear at least once in your text.
For example, the number 112233 contains six total digits but only three unique digits: 1, 2, and 3.
Because there are only ten standard decimal digits, the Unique Digits metric can range from 0 to 10.

Digit Frequency
The Digit Frequency table shows the number of times each digit from 0 through 9 appears in your text.
The percentage column shows each digit's share of the total digits in the text. For example, if your text contains 20 digits and the digit 5 occurs four times, 5 represents 20% of all digits.
By default, the table sorts digits from most frequent to least frequent. You can also view digits in their original order of first appearance, sort them from 0–9 or 9–0, or switch to least frequent first.
The Total row at the bottom of the table shows the combined digit count and the percentage represented by all digits.

What Is Digit Percentage?
Digit Percentage measures the proportion of all characters in your text that are digits.
Unlike the percentages in the Digit Frequency table, which compare one digit with all other digits, Digit Percentage compares the total number of digits with the total number of characters in the text.
For example, if a piece of text contains 100 characters and 25 of those characters are digits, the Digit Percentage is 25%.
Most and Least Frequent Digits
The Most Frequent Digit metric identifies the digit that occurs most often in your text.
The Least Frequent Digit metric identifies the least frequently used digit among the digits that actually appear in your text. Digits that do not appear at all are not treated as the least frequent digit.
If multiple digits have the same frequency, the tool displays the tied digits together rather than selecting one arbitrarily.
What Can a Digit Counter Be Used For?

How Do I Count One Specific Digit?
