How to Use the Text Compare Tool
Paste the first version into Original Text and the second into Revised Text. The comparison updates as you type. Added text appears in green, and removed text appears in red. You can compare by word, line, or character.
Choose a Comparison Method
Words is useful for comparing drafts and paragraphs. Lines makes it easier to review lists, code, and line-based edits. Characters can help you find small changes to spelling, punctuation, or spacing.
Understand the Results
Removed text is highlighted in the Original Text panel, while added text is highlighted in the Revised Text panel. The summary shows the number of characters added and removed, along with the character count for each version. Unchanged text appears in both panels.
Ignore Case or Whitespace
Select Ignore letter case to treat uppercase and lowercase letters as matching. Select Ignore whitespace to disregard spacing differences when comparing. These settings affect the comparison but do not alter the text in either box.
Compare Text Privately
The comparison runs in your browser, and this tool does not send the text to a server for comparison. For total character counts, use the Character Counter. You can also count words with the Word Counter.
